2025 - 2026 IHS Cellphone Policy

What’s New This Year?

We will continue using Yondr pouches with a few updates to strengthen consistency and effectiveness. We’ve already seen encouraging results—students are:

● More focused

● More engaged in their learning

● Building stronger social connections

Please take a moment to review the updated guidelines below and discuss them with your child.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 Yondr Pouch Use

● Each student will receive a personal Yondr pouch on the first day of school.

● Students are responsible for bringing their pouch daily to and from school.

● Lost or damaged pouches will not be reissued.

Securing Devices Upon Arrival

● Upon entering the building, students must show staff that their device is secured inside their locked Yondr pouch.

● Devices will remain locked throughout the school day and will be unlocked at dismissal.

If a Pouch Is Lost, Damaged, or Forgotten

● Students without a pouch must turn in their device at the front desk before attending class.

● Devices will be returned at the end of the school day.

Non-Compliance Policy

● If a student refuses to follow the phone-free policy, including failing to use the pouch or turn in their device, a parent/guardian meeting will be scheduled.

● Continued non-compliance may result in disciplinary action, including loss of privileges such as: ○ Internships

○ Field trips

○ Sports

○ Special events

○ Other disciplinary consequences

Parent Communication During the Day

If you need to reach your child during school hours, please contact the main office at (212) 262-8067. We will ensure your message is delivered promptly.

A school contact resource will be sent to all families by the first day of school.

In Case of a School Incident

In the event of an emergency or safety-related incident:

● Students must follow staff instructions and avoid using personal devices.

● Device use during emergencies can cause confusion, spread misinformation, and interfere with safety procedures.

To keep families informed, the school will use our designated text messaging app to communicate directly with parents and guardians. Please ensure your contact information is up to date to receive timely notifications.

Emergency Device Access

● Multiple staff members can unlock devices if a student requires emergency access.

Medical Exemptions

● If your student must have a cell phone available for medical reasons, please provide medical documentation so we can process an exemption.

Thank You

We believe these updates will further enhance our learning environment and help all students thrive without the distractions of personal devices.

Thank you again for your ongoing support and cooperation.
